Generating a SSL Ceritficate Request within Synergist

NOTE - ONLY USE THIS INTERFACE IF YOU HAVE NOT YET BEEN SUPPLIED WITH YOUR CERTIFICATE.  IF YOU ALREADY HAVE YOUR CERTIFICATE YOU DO NOT NEED TO FOLLOW THIS GUIDE.

Your Synergist server has a built-in user interface to assist with acquiring an SSL certificate to secure communication between your web server and remote users

You access this interface from the user / license window of the 4D Server user interface via Actions -> Setup SSL

The Setup SSL interface has 2 pages, one for generating your keys, the other for creating the certificate request.  First generate your keys:-

Enter the desired key length and click Generate Keys.  Note that since the start of 2011 the minimum length for keys is 2048 bit.  This copies your key.pem file into the required location, and also places a copy of the public key in the same location (your database folder).

Once your key is generated you can enter all required information into the certificate request page:-

Country codes are 2 letter codes, a list can be found here: Country Codes.

Clicking Generate Cert Request will populate the certificate request information, which you should then use to obtain your certificate from your chosen provider.

Now follow this KB article which explains how to include all the required intermediate and root certificates into your cert.pem file

Once the cert.pem file is created use the Browse.... button on the window above to find and open it.  This will copy the cert.pem file into the required location (your database folder).  The key.pem file will already have been placed in this location during the request generation process.

Your Synergist web server is now SSL-enabled, and will accept both http and https connections.
