Issue:

Unable to access the web portal.

Error message:

'Database cannot be published' error when starting 4D server

Symptoms:

Unable to access the web portal.

Cause:

This error message is due to the fact that 4D Web Server is attempting to use a network (TCP) port that is already being used by another application or is being blocked by a firewall.

Resolution:

To resolve this issue, use a different port number for the 4D web server or make sure the port number being used is not blocked by your firewall.

To change the port number, go to the users/licences panel on the server, and set the web server listen port port to an unused port number (8080 is usual if 80 is taken).

Other notes:

Internet Information Server (IIS) uses the default port 80, as does 4D. If IIS is installed after 4D, and the 4D web server is using port 80, IIS will take port 80 first, and the 4D web server will be unable to publish its pages. The port used by 4D will have to be changed.
